DK weight smooth silk yarns

These yarns are mill spun and steam set (for a balanced yarn) for us from finer silk. This yarn retains the gorgeous colours and the truly silky feel of the lace weight but gives the extra weight needed for some garments. The 8/28 is simply 4 strands of 2/28NM, whilst the 32/120 is actually 4 strands of 2/120 cobweb weight twisted together then 4 of THOSE strands twisted together again, which gives a wonderful cable texture. Similarly the 20/60 is twisted from 5 plies of a 2/60NM yarn (which we also sell) with two plies of THAT then twisted together, again giving a cabled texture - the 40/120s are actually 4 plies of 5 plies of 2 plies of 1/120s and so on...

These 8/28 NM dk weight, give about 580 yards per cone or 1,750 yards/lb. The 32/120 give about 620 yards and 1,870 yards/lb and the 20/60NM and 40/120NM yarns give 490 yards per cone (ie a little thicker) and about 1,500 yards per lb. You should get a gauge of about 20-24 stitches in a 4 inch swatch with US 5-6 or 3.75-4mm needles - see our articles on knitting and washing these yarns in our knowledge base sections
