Finished item - at long last for Beverley's Mum

2008年 9月 09日 火曜日 1:52:45 pm

At long last, I've now finished mum's blue sweater which she is now proudly wearing. Heavy Double Knit yarn, the colourway was called "Karma". My niece's favourite colour is blue so I'm now going to knit her a small jumper in this yarn. 55% Cashmere/45% Silk

What heaven this yarn is. While it did split a little, it wasn't really a problem. The result is so soft and yummy.

I've even gently machine washed it and low-medium temp dried it in the clothes dryer, with the expected (I swatched!) little bit of shrinkage. But it's brought it all together just the way I wanted. Can't wait to restock with this yarn and try the other colours!

Tablet Woven Band in Colourmart Silk

2008年 8月 28日 木曜日 3:45:53 am

I made this band with silk I bought from Colourmart several years ago - don't remember the exact gauge of the yarn(sorry!) but I'd guess it's a cobweb weight. This is wonderful yarn for weaving! It's a tad delicate but it was very easy to turn the cards and the result is incredibly soft and shiny.

Are there many male knitters out there?

2008年 8月 18日 月曜日 2:05:31 pm

Last Saturday I attended an event at Elder Stubbs Allotments in Cowley, Oxford. One of the visitors was a French/German couple who attended the previous year and who had spent some time at our pitch where we were demonstrating spinning using a drop spindle/spinning wheel, tapestry weaving and braid-making.

Of the two it was the husband who was the most keen. At the end of last year's event I gave them a black Colourmart cashmere hat for the baby they were expecting.

They returned last Saturday and brought along their son with him. It was great to see them again and I was particular delighted when the husband returned again - a couple of hours later - and brought with him 3 hats that he had made during the course of the year for his son. These are now attached!

Before he left I handed him one of Richard's Sample pack along with the sample skein of 7/24NM dk wt Aaromatic Cotton - Origano.

We do get a lot of interest from men with regard to spinning - but not many have shown in interest in knitting - am I wrong in that assumption?

I especially love the middle hat which, I was told was made from Alpaca and all 3 designs were created by the father. Isn't that brilliant.

Hi,

in answer to the question on links, we did once have separate forums for each yarn (which is what we would have to do to keep the postings separate) but we have so many yarns types and change them quite often too so we just ended up with lots of confusing small forums... maybe we can get the system to find the right page on the general forum but I'm not sure it can be done... we'll try again though

Question about links to this forum

2008年 8月 10日 日曜日 1:52:47 pm

Why doesn't clicking the picture or title of a project on the yarn pages take you to the page/place here where that project exists? I find it extremely annoying to have to wade through ten pages of (VERY BEAUTIFUL BUT DISTRACTING) photos trying to FIND the one I clicked on!!! I can't believe it would be that difficult to accomplish this...

Beverley's Mum - 55/45 Cashmere & Silk Yarn Design - Colour "Karma"

2008年 8月 07日 木曜日 1:48:59 pm

Front/Back of mum's design is now complete. I think I'm going to have to re-do the sleeves (That'll teach me for not doing a tension square!!)

So far the front/back have taken nearly just over 3 cones. The great thing about knitting in the round at the start is that I don't have to sew up the sides at the end - just the sleeves. I'll have just under 2 cones left over and will probably use this to make a garment for the son of one of my friends.

Close up - Crochet/Piping Effect for Beverley's Danish Traditional Shawl

2008年 8月 05日 火曜日 2:00:25 pm

Can't wait to wear this garment. The piping effect is going to take some time as you need to do each colour "crossover" in turn. However' I'm enjoying the challenge. The lighter ball of wool is 2 strands of beige (100% cashmere) and 2 strands of white 65% cashmere/35% silk which I dyed with Black and Grey food colouring.

wavy lace wrap from vogue-knitting fall 05. One 300gr cone was enough to complete this. I don't know was the yarn oiled or not, but I washed it 2 times with detergent in warm water just in case. Colour is adorable)) I tried several times, but still can't put the picture of it((

Gauge in stockinette stitch 26 sts and 36 rows with two strands held together on 3mm (US 3) needles. Needed almost two cones for this project. The yarn gets much softer after washing and is a dream to wear.

Camel sweater

2008年 7月 27日 日曜日 8:34:12 pm

This is a cabled sweater in the 1/6 camel yarn in Mocassin. It took a fraction under 300g for a 38 inch chest size, and gave 42 stitches and 44 rows to 10cm over the cable pattern. There was no bias despite it being a singles yarn, and it produced a clear cable stitch.

Champagn cashmere/viscose

Dear Borie,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I also had a cone of the same yarn in the sam ecolour. Its really good to see the option I ahve about changing its colour. I bought the Wilton's icing colour last month and is waiting to try it out. Did you wash away the oil in the yarn before you dye them?

SOTS III swatch #2

2008年 7月 22日 火曜日 7:18:09 pm

This is the same swatch made with Champagne yarn, but I dyed it with Kool Aid, after a good wash in hot water to remove the oil. The color turned out very uniform.

SOTS III swatch

2008年 7月 22日 火曜日 7:14:30 pm

For this swatch I was using the 4 ply cashmere/viscose yarn, color Champagne, on US #3 needle. Even though the yarn is still oiled (?), it is nice and soft. After I washed it in hot water, stretched it, it measures 8"W X 71/2" tall, and turned out to be even softer. For the swatch we had 39 stitches and 51 rows.

I bought just about every colour Richard had when he listed the cashmere/lycra, but in this case, it was white. As most of the garments I knit are neutrals or pastels, I find it goes with most things. However, I do have some of the darker colours that I use when knitting cashmere socks for my husband.
